Wally Wood’s 22 Panels That Always Work Wallpapers

Wally Wood is as close to technical perfection in comic book illustration as anybody has ever come. Thankfully, he had a good sense of humour and he thought a lot about his craft.

Case in point, the subject of this post. A valuable reminder to all illustrators that there are many possibilities to stage a panel, and the good ones involve contrast and juxtaposition in size and tone. Good visual storytelling and illustration relies on design principles for much of its power.

22 Panels That Always Work by Wally Wood

In cleaning up the presentation, I worked with each panel individually to retain all its detail. And the final result are 2560×1440 desktop wallpapers on white and grey backgrounds, with left- and right-hand versions to accommodate desktop icons for both Mac and Windows users.
